Theatres and Venues
Dublin has a long history of providing world class play writes. Dublin is the birthplace of William Butler Yeats, George Bernard Shaw and Samuel Beckett, the city has produced three winners of the Nobel Prize for Literature - more than any other city in the world. This literary tradition continues to the present day. As a result Dublin has a host of theatres and venues showcasing the best of Irish and international plays. These shows range for popular releases to experimental work shown in the smaller theatres.

Various world-famous actors have emerged from the Dublin theatrical scene, including Noel Purcell, Brendan Gleeson, Stephen Rea, Colin Farrell and Gabriel Byrne. Highlights of the theatre year include the Opera season, Dublin Fringe Festival and the Dublin Theatre Festival.
